What Is Your PH?
Hola! Como estas? Glad to hear you’re good. I’m good as well. I meditated twice yesterday and I meditated this morning as soon as I woke up. I just finished doing my Zumba and I’m in good spirits! Hehehehehe. Okay so, remember when I did a post on pH based on the Tony Robbins cd but by golly it was confusing to understand and I feel it may have been confusing for you too. I understood the concept (after replaying it over and over) but the delivery may have been confusing. I wanted to find a better way to break it down for you so hopefully this is less confusing. Here we go… Ok let's take it back. High school back. What does ph stand for? What is the pH scale? What range is considered acidic, neutral and alkaline (Don’t look at the pic, no cheating!)? *Putting on my science cap* Well pH stands for power of hydrogen and the ‘H’ is capitalized because it is standard procedure to capitalize element symbols. The pH scale is a logarithmic scale that runs from 1 to 14. From range 1 to 6.9 is acidic, 7 is neutral and anything above 7 is alkaline. With that said the human blood pH should be slightly alkaline at a level of 7.36. Now don’t go thinking being above and beyond is good. You know the saying that too much of one thing isn’t good. Having an acidic pH is of course bad but having it too alkaline is also not a good thing. An acidic pH occurs from an acidic diet and believe it or not also occur from emotional stress and a toxic environment ie like a job, relationship etc. This is why I stay away from anyone that is too negative because it drains me and is toxic to my health! This is why I don’t speak to my sister. The woman was killing my energy field. Also I work veryhard at maintaining a positive energy field at work. I try very very HARD. I will suggest to you, if interested, that along with what you will learn today about food make a list of non food items that you feel are toxic to you. Then its time to ‘clean house’ as a previous friend used to say.
Let’s continue. Having an acidic pH deprives our cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will then try to compensate for this acidity by tapping into our stored alkalinity. However, if we keep tapping into our reserves it causes more of an acid build up in our cells. Which is no bueno. Maintaining an acidic pH is a perfect home for tumor cells to thrive, it decreases the ability for cells to repair itself, decreases the body’s ability to absorb the minerals and nutrients that our body needs and many more bad stuff. Here’s one thing that was mentioned on a site (link below). It says that a blood pH of 6.9 can induce coma and death. Huh. Interesting. The reason an acidic diet is so common in the American society is because we eat what we can afford. For the month of May I spent very close to or maybe over $300 on groceries. I live by myself and prior my grocery bill for the month was $120 tops! Why the sudden increase? Because after feeling the need for a change I started making smoothies mid to the close of April and was replacing it with a meal. Once May hit and I was introduced to the Nutribullet (thanks Ryan) and learning about a slightly alkaline living lifestyle I began juicing more. Now don’t be perturbed by the cost. If it’s easier for you to consume your veggies and fruits by eating them, then by all means do so. That alone does not work for me and I would not take in the necessary amount of nutrients I need daily. Inexpensive foods such as fast food chains have very little if any nutrients that we need. Let’s be honest, how many times have you chosen something ‘healthy’ on the menu? Exactly! The American eating lifestyle is way too high in acid producing products like meat, eggs and diary, artificial sweeteners like Equal or aspartame and way too low in alkaline products such as our fruits and veggies. Nope, I’m not becoming a vegetarian but balance my loves. Balance. According to the article (I personally agree) to maintain health our eating habits should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid. To restore your health, the diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. Makes sense? Are you with me so far? Okay so what is your pH level? After listening to the Tony Robbins cd I was on a hunt to purchase a pH strip. None of my local pharmacy had any which was a big surprise. Someone suggested (I can’t remember who. Maybe Kazi) that I try the health food store. They didn’t have the strips but they had a pH tape. The tape was $13 BUT its 15 yards of tape. I tested my pH level and as you can see it’s 7.2. *Pats back* Not bad Shy, not bad. I wish I knew about this in April. I would’ve loved to know what it was prior. Either way I need to get it up. I’ll be testing it periodically. I tested my friend’s pH last week and his was a 7. Nice and neutral but if he wishes to get his pH up he has some work to do. I’ve copied and pasted the list of acidic and alkaline foods on the site listed below, just in case you don’t have the time to peep over there. I’ve also listed a website with alkaline juice recipes. My favorite is the carrot, coconut juice, and celery one.

Note that a food's acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so, lemons are alkaline forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion, but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid forming.
